West Ham have completed the €6.3million signing of Switzerland international Valon Behrami from Lazio, while Sunderland target George McCartney has signed a new five-year contract with the London club.
The 23-year-old Behrami can play at right-back or in midfield and has signed a five-year deal after passing a medical.
The Swiss has 15 caps and played in all three of his country's matches at Euro 2008. He also featured in the Champions League for the Rome club.
Earlier this month, the Hammers turned down a €4.7million offer from Sunderland for Northern Ireland defender McCartney, who moved to Upton Park club from the Black Cats in 2006 in a four-year deal worth €1.26million.
Sunderland boss Roy Keane wanted McCartney to return to the Stadium of Light but the the 27-year-old full-back has made clear his desire to stay in east London.
