Chelsea 1 Tottenham 2 (after extra-time): Jonathan Woodgate's fortuitous strike in extra-time won the Carling Cup for Tottenham and earned the first trophy under head coach Juande Ramos.

Didier Drogba had given Chelsea a first-half lead at Wembley with a free-kick that caught Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson out of position and wrongfooted.

Dimitar Berbatov levelled from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining after Wayne Bridge was penalised for handling in the area, giving Spurs hope of ending their nine-year silverware drought.

Woodgate's winner, which cannoned off him and in after Petr Cech had saved his initial effort, marks a stunning four months since Ramos took over from Martin Jol. It also guarantees Spurs a hat-trick of European campaigns.

Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane admitted it was a "dream come true" to get his hands on the trophy.

Keane said: "Hopefully this is start of something special, hopefully we can kick on now. It's special for the fans.

"This was a massive test for us and it's unbelievable and a dream come true to come out as winners. I dreamt of this moment as kid and I'm speechless."

Woodgate said: "I don't really go up for corners but I took a chance and was able to get my head on it and luckily it went it. I think we were the best team and hopefully we can push on from this next year. Chelsea are a top side and they showed that today but we did it."

Spurs manager Juande Ramos added: "I am happy because the people (fans) are very happy."
