Charlton 0 Wycombe 1:Having been appointed in a caretaker capacity on November 14th after the sacking of manager Iain Dowie, Les Reed may well be lucky to make it to Christmas at the helm of Charlton Athletic as the club plunged to new depths tonight at the hands of  side Wycombe Wanderers at The Valley.

Already languishing five points off the pace at the foot of the Premiership Charlton needed a fillip at home this evening and a place in the Carling Cup semi-final would have been the perfect tonic.

Alas, for Reed, his disjointed squad, and their bemused fans, a first half goal from Jermaine Easter sealed their fate in what appeared to be the only competition in which they could seek salvation.

Easter, who has scored in every round, got the winner for the Division Two side after 35 minutes with a fine shot from outside the area after Charlton keeper Scott Carson had made several saves.

Wycombe are no strangers to such cup shocks, having reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2001 under Lawrie Sanchez and beating Fulham in this season's League Cup under the guidance of former Celtic midfielder Paul Lambert, who won the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund on 1997.
