Golf:The Maguire twins, Lisa and Leona, along with their European team mates have their work cut out if they are to overcome the Americans and claims the Ping Junior Solheim Cup which is being played at Aurora Country Club in Illinois.
The junior matches serve as the curtain-raiser to the Solheim Cup which gets underway several miles up the road at Rich Harvest Farms, Sugar Grove from Friday.
In the junior event the hosts made a fast start to open up a 4-2 lead after the fourball matches. Leona played alongside Sally Watson but they were defeated 2 and 1 by Sarah Brown and Alexandra Stewart.
Lisa enjoyed and 3 and 1 win playing alongside Kelly Tidy in the bottom match against Jennifer Johnson and Kristina Wong.
The foursomes matches didn’t get any better as America won the series 3.5-2.5 to open up a 7.5-4.5 overall lead, but there was better news for the twins.
Leona and Watson halved the top match with Stewart and Jessica Korda, while Lisa and Tidy defeated Wong and Stephanie Kim 3 and 2 in the bottom match.
With Europe having it all to do in today’s singles, Leona will take on Ani Gulugian in the fourth match with Lisa to play anchor role in the bottom match against Kristen Park.
