Visitors Finn Harps won their second match of this season's National League campaign when they defeated Galway United at Teryland Park last night, where two goals during the first quarter decided the home side's fate.

Galway United had made five changes from the side which had lost last week to Derry City, 2-0. On eight minutes the Donegal side had a chance on goal when the influential James Mulligan unleashed a 20-yard drive which was gathered safely by 19-year-old Galway keeper, David Forde. The first goal for Harps arrived after 10 minutes when Mulligan got behind Billy Clery and Scott Morgan, and his cross was met by veteran 33-year-old striker Jonathan Speak, who scored with a looping header.

Just 40 seconds later Finn Harps went 2-0 ahead when Speak set up Mulligan who chipped into the United goal for his fifth league goal in four matches.

After 26 minutes Galway United pulled one back when Ollie Keogh scored his third league goal of the season.

On 31 minutes Galway United almost levelled affairs when Daragh Sheridan supplied striker Jason Kabia who sent a shot towards goal which Gavin Dykes glanced in the direction of his own keeper, Brian McKenna, who tipped over to avoid danger.

The second half was only 23 seconds old when in-rushing Jonathan Minnock availed of a mistake by Sheridan; and when United's Billy Clery slipped, Speak was on hand to touch home.

With 68 minutes elapsed, Galway's Gareth Gorman unleashed free kick which McKenna got a vital touch to. In injury time United escaped further when Paddy McGrenaghan and Fergal Harkin struck the crossbar.
