A round up of today's other sports stories in brief.
Rugby XI take to the wicket
A Leinster Rugby XI will play a Malahide CC President's XI this evening at Malahide Cricket Club in a 20/20-style cricket match in aid of the Welcome Home charity helping the homeless of Dublin, writes James Fitzgerald.
The match, sponsored by Bank of Scotland, will feature several top Leinster rugby players, including Irish international scrumhalf Guy Easterby, Rob Kearney, Brian O'Riordan and England international prop forward Will Green.
The side will be captained by Leinster assistant coach Gerry Murphy.
There will be music, a barbecue and plenty of opportunity to meet the players.
There is no entrance fee but a collection and post-match raffle will be made in support of Welcome Home and Fr Peter McVerry, who works with young homeless people in Dublin.
Play is scheduled to start at 6pm.
Kurten gives Irish a boost
Jessica Kürten kept Irish tails up with a brilliant showing at the prestigious German fixture in Aachen yesterday afternoon, missing out on the top spot by just over half a second in the big speed class, writes Grania Willis.
The world number two was last into the arena from a 62-starter field and had Margie Goldstein-Engle's time of 75.29 as her goal. With the mare Quibell tuned to perfection, Kürten hurtled through the finish just over half a second adrift of the American, but the runner-up slot was enough to give the Irish a morale boost going into this afternoon's Samsung Super League round.
At home, Switzerland's Christian Landolt heads the Fáilte Ireland two-star class after the first day of dressage at the Punchestown international three-day event. He produced the winning test, despite torrential rain and howling winds, to score 40.4 penalties.
Six swimmers for France meet
Swim Ireland have announced a six-strong team for this year's Mare Nostrum event in Canet, France, on June 7th-8th. The team comprises Julie Douglas, Jonathan Nixon, Karl Burdis, Aisling Cooney, Jill Nesbitt and Kevin Stacey.
The Canet meet is the second of three top outdoor European meets which take place over the course of a week at the start of June.
The Mare Nostrum also takes place in Monte Carlo on June 3rd and 4th, before moving on to Canet and finishing in Barcelona on June 10th and 11th.
The Mare Nostrum attracts the best swimmers from around the world, with top Australian swimmer and Olympic champion Ian Thorpe competing in the Monte Carlo leg of the event.
