Day ends badly for Doherty in Beijing
SNOOKER: Former world champion Shaun Murphy upset home favourite Ding Junhui to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Honghe Industrial China Open in Beijing
The Rotherham player edged to a 5-4 victory and will now play Belfast's Mark Allen in the last eight. Allen had a workmanlike 5-3 victory over Tiptree's Ali Carter.
There was no joy for Ken Doherty, as the Dubliner went down 5-3 to Welshman Ryan Day.
Doherty compiled breaks of 136 and 48 to level the match at 3-3, but Day earned himself a meeting with his compatriot Mark Williams thanks to breaks of 71 and 54 in the deciding frames.
Carter pushed Allen all the way with breaks of 59, 54, 58 and 45, but the Belfast youngster held firm and pocketed runs of 64, 135, 40, 53, 59 and 75 to make sure of his place in the next phase.
Also through to the last eight is Leicester's Mark Selby.
Selby will play world champion John Higgins in a repeat of last season's World Championship final, which the Scot won 18-14.
The last quarter-final will see the Derbyshire veteran Nigel Bond take on Scotland's Stephen Maguire.
Dallaglio suspended for a week
RUGBY: Lawrence Dallaglio has been suspended for a week by his club Wasps. The club launched an investigation after their captain was cited for striking Leicester prop Julian White during last Saturday's EDF Energy Cup semi-final at the Millennium Stadium.
Dallaglio, who faces a Rugby Football Union disciplinary hearing in London next Tuesday as a result, will now miss Wasps' Guinness Premiership appointment with Leicester this weekend.
The former England captain's club ban took effect two days ago. Wasps say they are satisfied there was no intention or malice on Dallaglio's part, although his actions did infringe the relevant International Rugby Board rule.
The club also took into account what they describe as Dallaglio's "exemplary previous disciplinary history". Dallaglio said: "I acknowledge that my actions infringed the rules, although I wish to stress that they were unintentional and without any malice.
"I have extended my apologies to Julian White."
Dallaglio (35) will retire from all rugby next month following a glittering career that saw him help England win the 2003 World Cup.
O'Sullivan may face serious trouble
SNOOKER: Ronnie O'Sullivan could be in serious trouble after lewd comments he made in a press conference at the Honghe Industrial China Open.
The sport's governing body, World Snooker, is reviewing a video in which the two-time world champion made sexual innuendoes and suggestive comments in front of the assembled media in Beijing.
O'Sullivan can be heard making sexual references towards journalists on a Chinese video-sharing website. His comments followed his 5-4 defeat to Hong Kong's Marco Fu in the last-32 round.
While a Chinese translator was taking questions from the press, O'Sullivan looked bored and then brandished a hand-held microphone suggestively. He then made a further sexual reference and began laughing.
Warne retires
CRICKET: Shane Warne is retiring from first-class cricket and will no longer play for Hampshire.
"I am retiring from all first-class cricket but will participate in the IPL (Indian Premier League) with the Jaipur franchise as captain and coach," said Warne.
Warne was going to play for Hampshire again this season but Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said the two parties had mutually agreed to a parting of the ways.
