THE South African team for the third and final Test against Britain and Ireland at Ellis Park on Saturday shows five changes from the side that lost the second Test, 15-18.

Surprisingly there is only one alteration in the back line and four in the pack.Andrews and flanker Ruben Kruger.

In an effort to rectify the place-kicking deficiencies that proved so costly last Saturday, Jannie de Beer (Free State) has been called in at out- half in place of Henry Honiball. De Beer played for Free State against the Lions last Tuesday night in Bloemfontein (when the tourists won 52-30) and kicked three penalties, three conversions and scored a try.

He was not a member of the squad of 27 named by the Springboks almost a month ago and will now make his debut.

In the pack there is a recall for James Dalton at hooker and he displaces Naka Drotske. Dawie Theron, who came on as a replacement for tight-head prop Adrian Garvey in the second Test, is now preferred to Garvey. Andrews's place in the second row goes to Krynauw Otto (Northern Transvaal), while a second new cap, Johan Erasmus, takes over from Kruger. Erasmus also played for the Free State last Tuesday.

The decision to replace two of the three front-row players is a singular tribute to the Lions trio of Tom Smith, Keith Wood and Paul Wallace. This was an area where prior to the Test series the belief was that the Springboks would be superior.
