St Benildus 1-10 Portmarnock CS 1-1:ST BENILDUS College eased into the quarter-finals with a superb second-half display against Portmarnock CS in north Dublin yesterday. With a strong breeze at their backs, hosts Portmarnock led 1-1 to 0-3 after Conor Dowling had finished off a fine move.
However, with Ferghal Duffy acting as the catalyst for St Benildus, the gap was down to a single score by the break and when full forward Liam Murphy prodded in a goal seconds after the restart, the game swung decisively in the south side team’s favour.
Indeed, such was the dominance of the St Benildus’ defence in the second period that Portmarnock failed to even muster a shot in anger as Duffy and Murphy continued to pile on the scores for the visitors.
