St Brigid's1-13 Glencar/Manorhamilton 3-5:DESPITE SCORING three goals and narrowly missing a fourth in extra-time, Glencar /Manorhamilton were denied a famous victory by a better organised St Brigid's in an exciting game at Páirc Seán Mhic Diarmada, Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday.

On three occasions the Leitrim champions looked to have done enough to secure victory but each time St Brigid’s came back to thwart them.

Both sides had scored two points apiece before Adrian Croal finished to the net in the 12th minute but three points from Senan Kilbride and one from Frankie Dolan to Adrian Croal’s 16th-minute point from play levelled matters with five minutes of the half remaining. A Frankie Dolan goal in the 25th minute put St Brigid’s firmly in the driving side and they deservedly led 1-6 to 1-3 at the interval.

James Glancy’s 31st-minute pointed free was cancelled by a similar score from Frankie Dolan seven minutes later but in the 44th minute a Glancy fisted goal from a high, lobbing ball sent in by Anthony McDonald put Glencar/Manor’ back in the game.

St Brigid’s responded with three unanswered points between the 47th and 54th minute to retake the lead. Once again the Leitrim champions rose to the challenge and when Adrian Croal scored his second goal, it looked like Glencar/Manorhamilton would cause a shock.

However, St Brigid’s, led by a man-of-the-match display from Ian Kilbride, restored their lead with three unanswered points in a two minute spell at the end of the game. Adrian Croal’s extra-time point was poor consolation for an impressive fight back by the Leitrim champions but St Brigid’s held their nerve and their lead.
