THE superior technical know how of St Columba's eventually subdued St Mel's in this Leinster Schools' Junior Cup Section A second round tie at King's Hospital yesterday.
A superb individual try from Enda Brady, converted by Colm Glynn gave St Mel's an unexpected 7-0 lead early on. But in the tight, the Longford boys struggled. St Columba's number eight Ben Deacon plunged over for a try before scrum half Rory McArdle did likewise. Deacon converted and St Columba's held a 12-7 advantage at the break.
A Glynn penalty cut the arrears, only for Matt Fearon to force his way over. For the second time, Deacon obliged with the conversion and finally kicked a penalty.
