Three first-half tries were enough to set up St Columba's for a comfortable passage into the second round at Newbridge yesterday.

They never looked back after Daniel Dobbs got the opening try in the 10th minute.

They consolidated their advantage with further tries from Henry Spiller and Alastair Musgrave, and Daniel Manning kicked two conversions to give St Columba's a 19-0 interval lead.

Tullamore College replied 10 minutes into the second half with a try from Thomas Coughlan, converted by Peter Farrell. But their recovery was short-lived as they failed to add to this score and a try from Manning near the end underlined St Columba's superiority.
