NFL DIVISION FOUR Carlow 1-10 Leitrim 0-10:LEITRIM'S PROMOTION hopes were dealt a blow by Carlow at Carrick-on-Shannon yesterday.
A penalty goal 12 minutes from time by David St Ledger set up Carlow for a deserved victory.
Carlow began well with an early point from play by Seán Gannon, Leitrim’s James Glancy replying two minutes later.
Two further Carlow points sandwiched between a Leitrim point by Adrian Croal kept the visitors in front after 16 minutes. Leitrim edged ahead with a 35th minute point from play by Wayne McKeon to lead 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
Carlow restored parity through a St Ledger point from play but Leitrim went ahead again through James Glancy in the 45th minute.
Carlow battled back and the turning point came when St Ledger converted a penalty after 58 minutes. Leitrim launched a late rally with Conor Beirne scoring three pointed frees but Eoghan Ruth’s late point sealed a deserved win for Carlow.
