St Michael's  ...27 CBC Monkstown ...5: St Michael's  will be worthy adversaries for Cistercian College Roscrea in the Leinster Schools' Junior Cup quarter-final after dealing comfortably with CBC Monkstown at Donnybrook yesterday.

The scoring started as early as the seventh minute when left wing Gary Clarke fielded a mistimed kick to touch just outside the CBC 22 and sprinted home for a try.Shortly after, flanker Kevin Feeney moved the ball out of the tackle for outhalf Andrew Cummiskey to score under the posts. Centre Oliver Cleary made it one from two conversions to give St Michael's a 12-0 lead.

Cummiskey was the creator-in-chief again in the 21st minute. A quick pass to the fast-finishing Clarke was too much for the Monkstown rearguard. Cleary added the points.

CBC had good players in hooker Steven Verso, openside Ciarán Shiel-Drohan and centre Peter McLoughlin and there were phases when they stretched the opposition, notably in the 26th minute with the try of the match. The textbook approach work was given an injection of pace by Shiel-Drohan down the middle. The forwards were up in support. The ball was shifted out right and wing Robert Cole crossed to score in the corner.

However, Cleary's strength got him to the line just before half-time to make it 24-5. Cleary went on to close out the game with a 59th minute penalty.
