St Michael's, Enniskillen 1-12 Omagh CBS 1-5A compact and confident St Michael's won yesterday's Bank of Ireland Dr MacRory Cup final at Casement Park in something of a canter. The 1-12 to 1-5 scoreline does scant justice to the winners who were vastly superior. The Enniskillen side will now go into the Hogan Cup semi-final against Dundalk Schools with a lot of confidence.
St Michael's led 0-7 to 0-1 at the break and when Peter Sherry lofted over his third point all seemed hopeless for Omagh. However, a three-minute spell raised their hopes. From a St Michael's defensive error Cathal Nicholas fired the ball home in the 34th minute and almost immediately Joe McCarroll tossed over a free.
Now at 0-8 to 1-2, Omagh were in with a chance of getting back into the hunt but their hopes were dashed by four points between the 43rd and 47th minutes. They were all fine scores from far out and were topped off with a 50th-minute goal by Ciaran Reilly to end the contest.
