St Munchin's 19 Ardscoil Ris 12:St Munchin's set up a semi-final meeting with holders Rockwell in the Munster schools senior cup thanks to this hard-earned win against Ardscoil Rís at Annacotty.

Two tries in a three-minute spell in the second half were the key to success. Ardscoil were rewarded for persistent pressure when they opened the scoring with a try from scrumhalf Colm Noonan after 27 minutes, which Robbie Bourke converted.

Two minutes before half-time St Munchin’s were awarded a penalty. Having failed with two previous efforts from the same position, Shane Airey this time opted for touch in the corner. The throw was gathered by Shane O’Mullan and after a couple of drives hooker Peter Meyer touched down and Airey tied it up.

Ardscoil got back in front after 52 minutes with a try in the corner by Ronan McKenna but six minutes later came a defining moment.

An attempted Ardscoil clearance was blocked down and Dan Goggin touched down for Airey to convert and three-minutes later following a well controlled maul Lee Nicholas had another try for St Munchin’s with the conversion going wide off the upright.

St Munchin’s just about deserved the win and they had excellent forwards in O’Mullan, Tom O’Dwyer and Meyer with Ryan Meagher and Airey doing well.

Stephen Fitzgerald, Ronan McKenna and Noonan (backs) and Frank Bradshaw Ryan, Paul Obande and Conor Glynn did well in the pack.
