The Colm O'Rourke-coached St Patrick's, Navan dethroned Leinster and All-Ireland Colleges A football champions Good Counsel, New Ross in a thrilling Leinster semi-final, which went to extra-time at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow on Saturday.
The Navan college were on the brink of defeat just minutes from the end when they trailed by four points (2-4 to 0-6). But a superb 57th-minute goal from centre forward Shane McKeigue and a converted injury-time free by Ivan McCormack sent the game into extra time.
The match exploded into action with two Good Counsel goals in the 33rd and 44th minutes from Philip Gleeson and Ciaran Deeley to put the champions apparently on course for a the St Patrick's comeback forced extra-time and they deservedly emerged victorious.
