Colleges GAA Leinster SFC qualifiers/St Patricks 1-9 Colaiste Eoin 0-10:Leinster Colleges SFC A title-holders St Patrick's, Navan, performed a Houdini act when advancing to the quarter-finals at the expense of south Dublin opponents Coláiste Eoin in an exciting qualifier at Páirc Tailteann yesterday.
Colm O'Rourke's side looked to be in trouble when trailing by five points after 11 minutes and after battling back into a winning position, they had to depend on a superb late save by goalkeeper Barry Carolan from substitute Pól Ó Cuinnegain.
Five different forwards got on target during Coláiste Eoin's best spell and they threatened to take complete control. But a fisted goal by Darragh Smyth after 25 minutes brought St Patrick's into contention. It was 0-8 to 1-2 at the break and two points from Marc Ó Cochlainn were all the Stillorgan side could add in the second period. After 48 minutes they wasted a penalty opportunity with Barra Ó Ruairc putting the kick wide.
The teams were level three times in the second half before points from Stephen Moran and Jake Regan decided the issue.
