St Peter's, Wexford ... 1-8 Moyne CS, Longford ... 1-7 Favourites St Peter's, Wexford, advanced to another provincial semi-final after a hard-fought encounter with Moyne Community School at Mountmellick yesterday.
St Peter's played with the advantage of the wind in the first half but it was Moyne who opened the scoring with an Adrian Maguire point after two minutes. St Peter's levelled almost immediately when Darren Foran pointed a free. Then a well-taken goal from midfielder Michael Doyle gave the Wexford college a lead they would never surrender.
Darren Foran extended their lead with a point from a free and just before half-time against the run of play the Longford side scored a great goal when full forward Brian McCabe placed the in-running Adrian Maguire to leave just two points separating the sides, 1-4 to 1-2, at the interval.
Turning around with wind advantage the Longford college were level with points from Damien McGlade and Ronan Shields. At this stage it looked over for St Peter's but a point from midfielder Jonathan Fogarty gave them back the lead and when centre back Foran added two more in quick succession, three points separated the sides with 15 minutes remaining.
Again Moyne hit back with two points from Adrian Maguire but another great point from the best player on the field, Darren Foran, sent the Wexford college through to the semi-final.
