COLLEGES/Leinster SHC semi-final - St Peter's Wexford ... 3-8 Dublin Colleges ... 1-12: St Peter's, Wexford, had to withstand a second-half comeback from Dubin Colleges before ensuring a place in the Leinster Colleges senior hurling A final against holders St Kieran's, Kilkenny, at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, yesterday. The major difference between the sides was the ability of St Peter's to score goals.
In an evenly-contested opening half, Dublin Colleges made the better start, but a commanding performance from the St Peter's centre back Stephen Nolan saw his side gain in confidence. A 15th-minute goal from full forward Cormac Quigley provided the springboard for a half-time lead of 1-6 to 0-5 for St Peter's.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Wexford side recorded the scores that ultimately won them the game. First, centre forward Stephen Banville touched a Stephen Nolan free to the net. Corner forward Liam Kinsella rifled over a point before the other corner forward, David Goff, scored his side's second goal.
St Peter's now led 3-7 to 0-5, but inspired by midfielder Michael Carton, Dublin Colleges produced 1-7 to a single point for their opponents, their goal coming in the 58th minute from Robbie Kelly.
In the end, however, St Peter's deserved their win.
