St Saran's, Ferbane - 20 St Joseph's, Galway - 15SCHOOLS RUGBY/Connacht Senior Cup, Quarter Finals:St Saran's , Ferbane, made their first half domination count to win a lively quarter-final tie in Ferbane yesterday.
However, it was St Joseph's who opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Colm Treacy kicked a fine penalty. But the lead was short lived as four minutes later Aidan Wynne's penalty levelled matters.
A brace of breakaway tries by Aidan Keenaghan in the 16th and 26th minutes gave St Saran's the initiative and they increased their lead through Wynne's 29th minute penalty. But just before the break St Joseph's were thrown a lifeline when Cathal Power crossed in the corner to reduce the deficit to 20-8.
St Saran's came under pressure in the second half and their defence held out until the 65th minute when prop forward Jonathan Walsh crossed for a try.
