Stackstown has won the All-Ireland Toyota sponsored Golf as Gaeilge Holmpatrick Cup at the gaeltacht venue of Ceann Sibeal in Co Kerry. Played in ideal conditions the Stackstown team of Tom Kiely (13) and John Lowry (14) returned an excellent score of 7 up against par to emerge victorious from the Shannon pair of Tom Reidy (13) and Colm Reidy (12). Roscommon's team of Kevin Henry (4) and Mario Costello (14) filled third pace with Vartry Lakes, represented by Gary Green (7) and John McCormack (21) in fourth place.
In all, some 200 golf clubs from throughout the country supported this year's event and it is estimated that some 14,000 players participated in the qualifying rounds. Proceeds from the Holmpatrick Cup, which was inaugurated in 1932, go to the National Council for the Blind. Since its running in conjunction with Toyota Golf as Gaeilge 13 years ago, the competition has raised in excess of £300,000 for the charity.
