Michael Carruth will fight the Hungarian champion Lorant Szabo in the 10-round welterweight bout in the National Stadium on Saturday week. The bout will be the chief supporting fight on the bill which features Shea Neary, the Liverpool-Irishman. Neary is defending his WBU light welterweight world title against Mike Griffin.

Also on the bill is the Dublin middleweight, Jim Rock, who faces Kevin Thompson, while Paul Griffin will fight Ross Cassidy from Derby.

Tennis: Owen Casey's bid in the ITF's Furtures series ended on a acrimonious note against Israel's Jonathan Erlich, but mainly with umpire Marcus Baker at Riverview yesterday.

Casey and Baker seemed to be engaged in a running battle during the one hour and 41-minute match. It culminated in a disagreement between Baker and Casey after the umpire ruled that Casey had touched the net when dealing with a dainty Erlich drop shot that popped over the net under the umpire's chair. Erlich put Casey's return away to set up match point in the second set tie break, which he subsequently capitalised on, but Casey was not at all satisfied with the umpire's call and gave vent to his feelings in no uncertain terms.
