THE SILKY moves of Barry Pierce and ball handling skills of Adrian Fulton inspired Star of the Sea to beat St Vincent's 106-83 in the Budweiser Super League top four tournament final at the Neptune Stadium yesterday.
Star had travelled to Cork with out long serving American Javan Dupree and Irish international Garth Maguire, who were both injured. As it turned out, Dupree's absence seemed to be a blessing. It meant Star were able to call on Pierce, who has played this season with Star's neighbours, Queen's. Pierce's mobility, speed and shooting touch gave the Belfast side more options.
In the semi finals St Vincent's came back from being 44-38 down at the break to beat Killester 93-83, while Star overcame Tralee even though the Kerry side were successful in appealing Ricardo Leonard's onematch suspension.
