Still no joy for France

France were held their fourth consecutive home draw last night as Poland kept them goalless in a Stade de France friendly.

The result - the third consecutive 0-0 in Paris after World Cup stalemates against Ireland and Israel - brought a disappointing year to a low-key close for the former World and European champions.

France dominated for most of the match, but Poland goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek produced a series of heroic saves to deny Les Bleus their first success in front of their home crowd since their coach Raymond Domenech took over in July.

The best chance came just before half-time when substitute Sidney Govou headed against a post.

In Sicily, Fabrizio Miccoli struck the winner for Italy in a 1-0 victory over Finland in a friendly international at Messina's San Filippo stadium yesterday.

Fiorentina forward Miccoli fired in from a narrow angle past Finnish goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen after 33 minutes.

Jaaskelainen made several saves to keep Finland in the game, while in the 66th minute AS Roma striker Vincenzo Montella, back after a two-year absence, hit the post.

Montella had another effort blocked late on and midfielder Aimo Diana had a goal ruled out by Romanian referee Alexandru Dan Tudor for offside.

The Juventus trio of Alessandro del Piero, defender Fabio Cannavaro and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon were all rested for the friendly as Italy coach Marcello Lippi opted for an experimental line-up.

In Leipzig, Miroslav Klose scored twice as Germany celebrated their 750th international match with a 3-0 victory over Cameroon last night.

The 2006 World Cup hosts missed a series of chances before Kevin Kuranyi took a pass from Michael Ballack and raced clear to open the scoring in the 71st minute.

Klose, a second-half substitute, made it 2-0 when he converted a left-wing cross from Bernd Schneider seven minutes later.

Cameroon, who hardly threatened Jens Lehmann's goal in a one-sided game, had midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba sent off with nine minutes to go and Klose added his second two minutes from time.

In Bratislava, Slovakia and Slovenia played out a scoreless draw in their friendly.

In Johannesburg, midfielder Benedict Vilakazi scored the winner as South Africa earned a 2-1 victory over depleted Nigeria in a friendly.
