UCD 2 Drogheda United 0
UCD MADE it a double over Drogheda when goals from Greg Bolger and Ciarán Kilduff gave them a convincing victory over an out-of-sorts United side at the Belfield Bowl last night.
The visitors had a couple of decent chances in the opening half, Michael Daly flicked wide of the target from Corie Treacy’s cross and John Flood headed wide from a Brendan McGill corner.
UCD striker Chris Mulhall fired over the bar after 33 minutes but College took the lead eight minutes later. Kilduff fed Mulhall, who was taken down inside the area by defender Joe Kendrick. Bolger made no mistake with the resulting penalty.
The Students stretched their lead in the first minute of the second half when a long cross from the left by defender Paul Harding allowed the unmarked Kilduff to plant a downward header from six yards past Drogheda goalkeeper Paul Murphy.
Drogheda had two chances to reduce the lead, only for Colm Smith to head wide and Brian King to fire over the top when well-placed. John Flood had their best chance on 72 minutes when he shot wide after goalkeeper Billy Brennan had lost possession.
