CONNACHT HURLING: The two colleges, NUIG and GMIT, look set for a final showdown in the Knock Airport Hurling League after facile victories at the weekend.
GMIT romped to a 1-23 to 0-5 win at Castlegar over a Roscommon team hoping to build on their success a week earlier against Mayo.
GMIT were always on top and led by 0-13 to 0-3 at the break. The only goal of the game came four minutes from time when Declan Garvey fired home.
NUIG dismissed Sligo/Leitrim by 2-25 to 1-7 with Kevin Hayes scoring 1-7 and Killian Neylon adding 1-4 at Dangan.
Mick Shelley managed a goal for Sligo/Leitrim but the outcome was never in doubt.
In the other game in the competition at the weekend, the Galway development squad scored a 1-14 to 1-10 win over IT Sligo at Ballinode. Niall Healy, rated one of the most promising young forwards in Galway, scored 1-10.
