O'BYRNE CUP: DCU 0-17 Offaly 0-8:DCU were the undisputed masters when they recorded a comprehensive win in Rhode last night.

Apart from the opening minutes, DCU were in complete control and the quality of their shooting was particularly pleasing as they continue their preparations for the Sigerson Cup.

Offaly made the better start and were 0-4 to 0-1 up after six minutes. They continued to hold their own for the next few minutes, but the students gradually got on top.

The visitors were level by the 23rd minute but had a let off when John Coughlan blasted over the bar from point blank range, and goalkeeper Robert Hennelly denied Offaly with three other fine saves over the 70 minutes.

By half-time DCU were 0-8 to 0-6 ahead, and already the result had an air of formality. DCU ruthlessly pressed their advantage home in the second half as Offaly floundered.

Ken Casey and Noel Graham got Offaly’s only points of the second half from frees.
