Eric Lavine was the Longford hero; his 84th-minute header secured the three points. But the midlanders should have had this game wrapped up much earlier.
John Martin, Shane Barrett and Alan Kirby all went close to scoring in an entertaining first half.
Rovers played only in patches, their best chance falling to Trevor Molloy in the 10th minute - but he rifled Keith Doyle's cross into the side netting.
