Munster under-21 HC/Cork 2-16 Waterford 0-11: A seven-minute scoring burst which yielded a goal and five points without reply midway through the second half clinched victory for Cork at Walsh Park last night.

That scoring spree, to which centre forward Stephen Sullivan contributed the goal, started 11 minutes into the second period at which stage Waterford led by 0-8 to 0-7 after their most productive spell of the match. It had been 0-6 to 0-4 in Cork's favour at half-time, and then the home side shot four points to Cork's one after the resumption and an upset seemed just possible.

But the attendance of nearly 4,000 were left disappointed as Cork turned on the power. Maurice O'Sullivan got the second goal on 49 minutes.
