In two delightful shades of olive green, Europe won the sartorial battle yesterday over the blue-clad Americans. But the home side have something rather special lined up for the weekend.
For the climactic singles battles on Sunday, skipper Ben Crenshaw has designed a shirt which will incorporate a montage of black-and-white photographs of winning US Ryder Cup teams from each decade. Fourteen silk screens were used on the shirts, which were manufactured in Italy.
"The Sunday shirt is historic," said Crenshaw's wife, Julie. "Ben wanted something to inspire the players." Called "The Gallery Shirt", only 20 have been produced, which means it will be available only to team members and high-ranking PGA of America officials, not the general public.
