SUNDERLAND:Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole will miss Sunderland's FA Cup sixth-round tie at Everton after being given three- and four-match suspensions respectively after their sendings-off in Sunday's Tyne-Wear derby, reports Louise Taylor.
Cattermole was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language towards referee Mike Dean shortly after the final whistle. That carries an automatic two-match ban but two more were added as an early foul on Newcastle’s Cheik Tiote saw Cattermole collect a 10th booking of the season. Sessegnon received a three-game ban for elbowing Tiote in the throat. Both will miss the quarter-final as well as Premier League fixtures against Liverpool and Blackburn. Cattermole will also sit out the QPR game on March 24th.
RANGERS:Players have issued the club's administrators with their final proposal to avert any job cuts after further talks between the parties yesterday, reports Ewan Murray.
Administrators are looking to strip over €1 million per month from the Rangers budget but players at the club believe the target can be all-but met without a batch of sackings and continue to press home that case.
One offer by the players to defer wages until the summer has already been flatly rejected although the man fronting a consortium hoping to takeover at Ibrox, Paul Murray, has written to administrators to point out he would rather inherit that scenario than one which would see serious funds needing to be invested in new players at the end of the season.
PREMIER LEAGUE:Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has been fined €18,000 and warned about his future conduct after admitting making homophobic comments on Twitter.
The 20-year-old Italian, who is on loan at QPR, was charged by the FA last month along with Newcastle forward Nile Ranger and Walsall’s Manny Smith.
An FA statement said: “Federico Macheda has been fined £15,000 and warned as to his future conduct after the Manchester United player admitted use of an abusive and/or insulting word including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation.”
