Kevin Sutherland an Tiger Woods were not sure whether to come to the Canadian Open at Oakville, Ontario. One of them was glad he did yesterday. Sutherland, whose wife gave birth to her first child last week only decided to play at the last minute and had his best opening round of the year - a seven-under-par 65 to take a one-shot lead over Cameron Beckman.
Woods was in unfamiliar territory and a two-putt birdie on the 18th gave him a 72 and barely kept alive his streak of 36 rounds at par or better. Spain's Sergio Garcia was tied with the leader but a couple of bogeys dropped him back to five under 67 along with Jesper Parnevik who made birdies on four of the last five holes.
