Equestrian: Conor Swail claimed the biggest scalp of the international show jumping weekend, netting himself 50,000 with victory in the Norwegian Grand Prix at Drammen yesterday. The 34-year-old Co Down rider was amongst a quintet in a timed decider and the Irishman's speed against the clock guaranteed his name on the winner's cheque.
Swail and the eight-year-old Dutch gelding Rivaal were faultless again in 42.77 seconds, two and a half seconds faster than the only other clear - from Italy's Filippo Moyersoen.
But there was no joy for the Irish in Saturday's non-Super League Nations Cup at the Norwegian show when the quartet of Commandant Gerry Flynn, Edward Little, Olive Clarke and Swail finished fifth of nine teams. Honours went to Denmark by one fence from the host nation.
Billy Twomey was also on target at the big Dutch fixture in Rotterdam, winning the opening young horse class on Saturday with six-year-old Senator W.
