Charlie Swan rode his 1,000 winner over jumps with an exciting victory on Rainbow Frontier in Saturday's Crowther Homes Swinton Handicap Hurdle at Haydock.

The Martin Pipe-trained four-year-old held on by half a length from Rubhahunish after taking the lead two out.

Amazingly, Rainbow Frontier had given Swan the 1,000 winner of his career - Flat and jumps - at Listowel last year.

Swan, who played down any talk of retirement afterwards, said: "I was hoping to ride a winner or two at Punchestown but nine of the 10 horses I rode found the heavy ground all against them. Still, It was great to get there on such a big day, especially as I used to ride Rainbow Frontier for Aidan O'Brien last year."
