Charlie Swan yesterday confirmed that he will be unable to ride in next week's Galway Festival "unless something dramatic happens in the next few days".

The champion jockey has been sidelined since he broke two ribs in a pile-up at Killarney last Thursday and revealed that he has not sat on a horse since.

After having X-rays yesterday, he said: "I will probably not be competing as you need to be 100 per cent fit for race-riding."

Swan had been due to ride Greenflag Princess for Jimmy Mangan in the feature Compaq Galway Plate.

Former Champion jockey Michael Roberts was the punters' toast at Leicester last night after he rode a sparkling 815 to 1 four- timer. The freelance's four victories came aboard Catfoot Lane (20 to 1), Colleville (4 to 1), Corn- flower Fileds (7 to 2) and Uplifting (8 to 11). Appropriately enough, each was for a different trainer.

Kieren Fallon was the jockey in form at Sandown last night after he rode a treble. The Irishman's three winners were John Ferneley (3 to 1 fav), Durham (3 to 1 fav) and Dabus (4 to 6 fav).
