How they got here: Won another of the less star-studded groups by a point from Latvia despite dropping five points to their nearest rivals. Put the group's weaker sides away well without ever looking all that impressive.

Manager: Lars Lagerback/Tommy Soderberg

Star turn: Freddie Ljungberg has been the key attacking player over the past couple of seasons but after a long, hard and comparatively quiet season it is the return of Henrik Larsson that threatens to breathe new life into a mundane Swedish side. The 32-year-old's strike rate for his country may not be quite what it was at Celtic but he will provide the sort of spontaneity up front that has been lacking.

Prospects: Not great. Good at getting to major championships but rarely do much when they get there. Given the group line-up they will be in contention for a place in the last eight but that will surely be as far as they go.
