Officials at the Heritage Golf and Country Club can brace themselves for a busy few weeks. No doubt they have plenty to do ahead of the fourball challenge they are staging next Monday featuring Vijay Singh, John Daly, Seve Ballesteros and Padraig Harrington. They can also expect some new membership applications based on the identity of our latest weekly winner.
The last time that Golf Masters regular Dave Tallon won a weekly prize was two seasons ago. On a fine summer's day he brought his mates Ronan Lynch, Sean Costello and Con Maloney to play the new course at Carton House.
Costello was so impressed that within weeks he had shelled out the very substantial readies required to become a member and Lynch has since followed suit.
Thanks largely to the timely purchase of Michael Campbell, Tallon has again topped our weekly standings with his Bifocals.
Clearly no fan of Thomas Levet, Tallon was "kicking his couch around" when Campbell missed the putt that would have got him into a play-off with the Frenchman for the Scottish title. With backup at Loch Lomond from Ian Poulter, David Howell and Damian McGrane plus Greg Chalmers and Hank Kuehne at the John Deere Classic, the Bifocals were still well clear of Oliver Mawe's Driving Range. We wait with interest to hear if any of Tallon's guests seek to join the Heritage even before they finish lunch.
The British Open and the BC Open are this week's counting tournaments. As a major, the British carries double prizemoney and there will be a bonus of a voucher for 1,000 of golf gear from McGuirk's for the weekly winner.
