Monaghan SFC Final: Castleblaney 0-10 Latton 0-6 Castleblayney staged a strong finish to wrap up their 37th Monaghan senior football title with four unanswered points in the final 11 minutes in Clones yesterday. Essentially it was experience that proved the difference between the sides as once Castleblayney got their noses in front they tightened their grip on proceedings.
Missed chances were the order of the day in the opening 20 minutes as both sides racked up a total of 13 wides between them, Latton with seven, before Finbar Fitzpatrick opened the scoring for Latton in the 18th minute.
Latton went on to lead at the break by 0-4 to 0-3, Dermot Duffy and Dermot McArdle landing two late points for Castleblaney after Latton had opened a three points gap on 26 minutes.
Six minutes into the second half Castleblayney drew level and eventually took the lead with an 18th-minute point by Ciarán Tavey. Castleblayney opened a three-point gap with points from Edwin Murphy and Dermot McArdle in the 21st and 24th minute. Tavey knocked over the insurance point from a free a minute into stoppage time.
