BOXING: Katie Taylor arrives in Yerevan, Armenia, today hoping that Irish boxing has edged a step closer to an upgraded International Boxing Association (AIBA) hat-trick.

Taylor and Tyrone's Michael Gallagher will collect awards respectively for AIBA Best World Female Boxer of the Year and Best World Referee and Judge in Yerevan on Friday.

The awards ceremony will take place after the World Youth finals - which are being held in Yerevan - where Antrim's Kurt Walker guaranteed himself at least bronze after reaching today's semi-finals.

The flyweight will be seeking to upgrade to at least silver this afternoon when he meets England's Oliver Reece-Simpson for the place in Friday's 52kg final.

"It would be fantastic if Kurt Walker won gold," Taylor said. "He's done fantastically well to reach the semi-finals and hopefully he can now go all the way.

" It is a proud moment for me to win the AIBA award again. I won it twice in the past and it is always nice to win something three times. That's really special. It has been a fantastic year for me all round."
