SLIGO GRAMMAR SCHOOL 32; ATHENRY VOCATIONAL SCHOOL 0: Sligo Grammar School strolled to victory in this Connacht senior cup game at the Grammar School grounds yesterday. Athenry, in the competition for the first time, were outclassed by their more experienced opponents.
Mark Butler opened the scoring with a penalty for the home side after two minutes before Brian Taylor added a try in the fourth minute. Right winger Aidan Blade stretched the Grammar lead with a 15th-minute try and a Trevor Richardson try, converted by Butler, gave the Sligo side a 20-0 half-time the lead.
Alf Gregg increased the Grammar lead with a try after 18 minutes of the second half, which Butler converted. Brian Taylor's well-worked try on the stroke of full-time completed the convincing victory for the Sligo side.
