This tightly-contested affair at Williamstown saw Mount Temple come out on top but only after they had survived some late pressure from fancied Newpark.

Mount Temple lost their right wing Patrick O'Dea early on when he dislocated a thumb, and the injury will almost definitely rule him out of next week's semi-final.

But they managed to regroup, with prop Micheal James landing a penalty. Then came their only try, midway through the first half when, from a series of rucks in the Newpark 22, second row John Laffey somehow managed to squeeze his way over, with James converting.

Newpark rallied after the interval and halved Mount Temple's deficit with 10 minutes left when Sam McKenna raced unto a diagonal ball to score.
