AFTER being held to 10-10 at the interval, Terenure gained control to overpower St Andrew's in the Leinster Schools Junior Cup second round tie at Donnybrook yesterday.
The absence of Alan Molyneaux resulted in the unusual switch of number eight Peter Dumbleton to scrum-half for St Andrew's. This did not seem to upset them initially. Indeed, they forced Terenure to concede a third-minute penalty, which Robert Smyth converted.
But Terenure's most dangerous back, Mark Duffy, availed of scrum-half Aidan Bird's short-side feed to cross for a try. Duffy added the points himself.
Although St Andrew's hit back with a Jamie Nicoll touchdown, converted by Smyth, Terenure were establishing command up front through Eoin Higgins, Daragh Whelan and Anthony Kelly.
Duffy kicked a penalty to levels matters and in the second half, Terenure broke the deadlock with tries by Donal Murphy, Duffy, and Barry Flynn, with Duffy landings one conversion.
