SOCCER:MANCHESTER CITY have warned Carlos Tevez he will be fined if he flies to Argentina today rather than take part in their official FA Cup celebrations, writes DANIEL TAYLOR.
The club have written to Tevez to inform him he faces disciplinary action if he decides to snub the open-top bus parade arranged to celebrate their first trophy for 35 years. City have informed all their players involvement is compulsory, but the club have been dismayed to learn Tevez has decided instead to book a morning flight to Buenos Aries. Tevez’s involvement is particularly relevant because once the parade arrives at the City of Manchester stadium, the club plan to re-enact the trophy presentation for the benefit of those supporters who could not get tickets for the 1-0 defeat of Stoke City at Wembley.
For the captain not to attend will leave City having to scrap plans – or asking the vice-captain, Vincent Kompany, to take over. The Argentinian was last night considering whether to accede to demands. It is a measure of how strongly City feel they have sent two copies of their letter to Tevez, one in English and one in Spanish, to make sure there is no possibility he will travel to Argentina and blame a language problem.
Tevez is keen to return to Argentina as soon as possible so he can see his daughters, Florencia and Katia, who live in Buenos Aires with his former partner Vanessa. He also wants to discuss his future with the family and find out whether his former partner might be tempted to move their children to Spain or Italy if he were to be transferred there.
Roberto Mancini, the City manager, has stated Tevez has told the club he will definitely be staying in Manchester next season.
However, those comments have surprised even the City hierarchy and differ greatly from Tevez’s version of events as he continues to make it clear he is keen to explore whether a move to Real Madrid or Inter can be arranged.
