The Club

Forgive me if I enthuse too much about this little gem, a club that I wouldn't have previously considered putting in my bag. Now, I'd feel insecure if I didn't have it. I found absolutely nothing wrong with it and it has been a great friend to me whenever I've strayed in to the rough (which is more frequently than I'd like).

The Heaven Wood Big Bertha War Bird is fantastic. It is a lovely club to look down on and it is one I could use with considerable confidence. I've a trusty little five-iron in my bag which I tend to rely on a lot in a round, but I found that the 7-wood gave me more distance and consistently better accuracy out of the rough or semi-rough than the iron.

If anyone knows the 18th at St Margaret's, which has an intimidating approach shot over water to an elevated green, then I could perhaps give an indication of the increased level of confidence I felt using the Callaway 7-wood. I went right, into the semi-rough, off the drive - but, rather than even considering a lay-up shot, I had no hesitation in using the wood and a measure of the confidence I had in the club was that I comfortably made the apron of the green. That's the sort of shot which can make or break you.

In the past, I would have had some concern about using a club with a graphite shaft. But not with this one. I have total confidence in it. The feel and weight is perfect and it is a club that has changed my expectations when playing a shot out of the rough or semi-rough that previously would have been a five-iron shot.
