The Club

I'm over the moon with this club

I'm over the moon with this club. I've never had real confidence in using a wood from the fairway, never mind the rough, and I tended to rely heavily on my three, four or five irons which are the clubs that the 7-wood generally covers. However, from my first swing with this club, I found it to be lovely. It goes long and straight out of the rough and I've also found it ideal for long par three holes.

I achieved an ambition of mine this year when winning the RTE matchplay trophy and I'd honestly say that this club was a factor. Put me 200 yards from the hole and I'd feel confident of walking away with a birdie or a par. The club suits my swing and my confidence has increased accordingly.

Indeed, I'd say that I have more confidence hitting the 7-wood that either a three or four iron. I've never really used a 3-wood or 5-wood on any consistent basis because I tended to catch underneath the ball and it would go way up in the air. But I found with a slow, easy swing that I got the desired result with this club straightaway.

From day one, the 7-wood became a favourite. It really is a lovely, lovely club and the ball just floats away upon impact. It got me out of trouble on so many holes.

The club suits my swing. The shaft is not whippy, but not stiff either, and it is like an ex- tension of my arms. It gets me onto the green, which is what an approach shot is all about. Where it would possibly take me a good long iron to make it, I found it easier to play the 7- wood. Where I'd normally use a three or four iron, I found I could take the 7-wood and fly it 160 to 170 yards: fly it and flop it down. I was very, very impressed with it.
