Mark O'Meara is undisputed king of the majors, after adding the British Open title to the US Masters crown that he won at Augusta. Sadly though for the majority of you, he remains an unearthed gem. Indeed while 308 people had the presence of mind to include him in week six when he won the US Masters, even fewer (299) enjoyed his recent British Open triumph.

A cursory examination of his season to date (below) shows that outside of the two majors the affable American has scored steadily if unspectacularly, albeit having played in a limited number of tournaments (12). A nation that embraces success and successful people, however tenuous the connection, there was, of course, an Irish angle to O'Meara's triumph.

Sure didn't he play Ballybunion in the kingdom of Kerry the week prior to the Open while the majority of his rivals were tackling the exclusive monster of Loch Lomond. Not only did O'Meara flourish after his links practice but so did Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk, third and joint fourth respectively, who also dropped into the famous Kerry venue.
