GAA: Championship 2015

In his Wednesday column Darragh Ó'Sé thinks it's imperative that Mayo win this year's Connacht title to 'get some buzz going'.

The columnist feels that Pat Holmes and Noel Connolly’s side find it too easy at provincial level and are simply waiting for August to really get into the thick of things.

“I expected more change. I expected them to be a bit more radical. The league is only a guide, but they looked a bit stale.”

Soccer: FAI controversy

Yesterday Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan said that the idea of the FAI claiming some compensation after Thierry Henry’s handball in 2009 was “ludicrous”.

Emmet Malone reports on the chief executives comments and says that John Delaney may be called to answer questions from a Dáil committee.

Athletics: Sonia O’Sullivan

Ian O'Riordan speaks to Sonia O'Sullivan about the golden summer of 1995 when she conquered the world to win gold in the 5,000m in Gothenburg.

O’Sullivan says that it took her a number of years to realise how much she should appreciate that golden era as it all comes to an end so quickly.

“I definitely got everything out of myself in those years,” she says.

Soccer: Conor McNamara

The BBC commentator speaks to Emmet Malone about his life behind the microphone and how he is living out a childhood dream.

McNamara has gone from strength to strength at the BBC, getting the chance to work at last year’s World Cup.

He says that, although the environment is very English, he feels that being Irish is his greatest asset.

Baseball: Pat Venditte

Andy McGeady writes about the unusual case of the Major League Baseball player who is able to pitch with both hands, and did so during his debut.

McGeady speaks about how much of an advantage it is in any sports to have someone able to step into a different position but Venditte’s talent goes beyond that.

Rugby: Under-20s World Cup

Nigel Carolan’s side are facing into the mammoth task today of attempting to become the first Irish men’s side to defeat New Zealand.

It's the young side's final group game and the prize at stake is a place in next Monday's semi-finals.

That kicks off in Viadan at 7.30pm this evening.

Soccer: Women’s World Cup

It was a disappointing start to their World Cup campaign for England last night as they lost out to France.

Meanwhile two records were broken in Brazil’s 2-0 win over South Korea.

Also in the women's game Ruaidhri Croke speaks to Stephanie Roche about her next move - which looks to be to England.

Roche speaks about the disappointment of being released by Houston Dash and the harsh nature of the professional game.

What to watch out for:

There are four games in the Under-20 Rugby World Cup today, including Ireland’s clash with New Zealand.
