Soccer: Capital Cup
Brendan Rodgers last night reaffirmed himself as the favourite to be the first Premier League manager to get the axe this season - and there was no doubting who the Carlisle United fans had their money on as their team brought Liverpool to a penalty shoot-out in last night’s Capital Cup third round.
"You're getting sacked in the morning" rang loud and clear around Anfield as the League Two outfit held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes before second choice 'keeper Adam Bogdan saved the day.
In the first north London derby of the year Arsenal progressed into fourth round with a 2-1 win over Tottenham.
Rugby: World Cup
Yesterday's Rugby World Cup action had promised so much more at half-time of the opening game - Japan were within touching distance of Scotland and in the ascendency in many facets but their weary legs were exposed after the break and another upset was denied. Australia then impressed with a physical and assured win over Fiji, although they failed to get their bonus point, before France scrambled their way to five tries in a scrappy encounter with Ireland's next opponents - Romania.
The only game tonight sees Namibia take on the impossible, they face the All Blacks. After making a host of changes to their XV New Zealand will be hungry to impress - Namibia are bracing themselves for a long 80 minutes.
Golf: The Tour Championship
In Golf and Jason Day hopes for another win, that'd be a sixth in his last eight, at the Tour Championship which begins today - as he hopes to fend off the challenges of Rory McIlroy and Jason Spieth for his newly acquired World No1 ranking.
Meanwhile in Shane Lowry's column this morning he says that "I've reached the stage where I am itching to get back out on tour with a card in my hand again."
