Allen steals point against Arsenal

Joe Allen's 90th minute equaliser snatched a point for Liverpoolin a frenetic encounter at Anfield last night, leaving Arsenal to rue a missed opportunity to cement their status as champions-elect.

Arsene Wenger’s side came from behind twice in a breathless opening 25 minutes before taking control of the game and then the lead in the second half through Olivier Giroud, however the Gunners left Merseyside disappointed after Allen’s later intervention.

Arsenal are now back level on points with Leicester City after Claudio Ranieri's side kept their improbable title challenge rolling on, Robert Huth's late header giving them a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Elsewhere Manchester City remain three off the top after a goalless draw with Everton at the Etihad, Sunderland beat fellow-strugglers Swansea 4-2 away from home, James McClean’s 86th minute strike gave West Brom a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, Shane Long helped Southampton to a 2-0 win over Watford and Jon Walters scored for Stoke as they beat 10-man Norwich 3-1.

Sonia O’Sullivan column

In her column today Sonia O'Sullivan discusses the doping issue plaguing athletics and responds to calls this week for world records to be reset, she writes: "But rather than erase what's gone before, I think in time we need to analyse the records that have been set in the past and document any credibility issues by highlighting the uncertainty of some records.

“We cannot simply delete history as many past athletes have clean sheets and they deserve to be recognised as pure athletes, with clean honest performances that have set the benchmarks for future generations to either emulate or surpass.”

Payne to return for Ulster

Jared Payne is set to return for Ulster this weekend when the province take onSaracens in the Champions Cup. It will be Payne's first competitive action since injuring his foot playing for Ireland against Romania in the Ruby World Cup.

McKenna Cup

Fermanagh are through to the semi-finals of the McKenna Cup after scoring six of the last eight points at Brewster Park to beat Donegal 0-12 to 0-8.
